Excellent points for consideration in designing and specifying oversized insulating glass units Michael. While have I haven't been in the industry as long as you (only 28-1/2 years), I have "war story" examples of challenges resulting from each of the considerations you mentioned.

I believe that while technological advancements in glass fabrication and handling equipment continue to enhance industry production capabilities, design professionals should work closely and build relationships with glass fabricators and building envelope contractors to ensure individual safety and long-term product performance. Meeting with building envelope contractors and glass fabricators on a regular basis will help a design team stay aware of advancements while also identifying potential pitfalls with product design applications.

Keep up the excellent work Michael and I'll look forward to reading the next "Based on Experience."
