Remember the old CSI show? Well, it has become the Construct show.
Under the new show management of Hanley-Wood LLC, the new event was held at the Las Vegas Convention Center last week, June 3-6, in conjunction with the CSI Convention. It featured approximately 300 exhibitors in 53,000 square feet of exhibition space.
The architectural glass and metal industry was present, showing its green credentials to attendees. The Tremco booth strongly promotes its involvement in solar and daylighting.
CPFilms gave a series of seminars on the show floor discussing how film can add privacy to existing glass, in addition to other benefits.
Wasco Skylights was promoting its nanogel insulation for skylights and its positive effects on daylighting.
Security glazing and hurricane-resistant products were also on the minds of attendees. Sheffield Plastics was showcasing its Makrolon Hygard SD security glazing products.
Energy efficiency was there in the PPG booth with its low-E Glass. The company also gave a seminar that focused on how architects can utilize low-E glass in design effectively.
Many of the attendees stopping at the USG/Architects’ Guide to Glass & Metal booth were architects and their interests and questions centered around energy efficiency, security glazing and photovoltaics (PV), all very similar to the experience at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) show in Boston just a couple of weeks ago.
Bruce Brown, a principal in GBD Architects in Portland, Ore., was very interested in exhibitors’ offerings and also curious about something he had heard about but was not there. “I’m very interested in vacuum glass and I understand Guardian will be introducing such a product,” he stated.
On the event’s extensive educational program, which was well attended, were two sessions specific to the architectural glass and metal industry. In one, Graham Architectural Products Corp.’s Raj Goyal discussed the effects of blasts on glazing and in the other James Bogdan of PPG compared the energy and upfront cost saving potential of common low-E glasses.
Looking ahead, show management has acquired the TFM show for senior facility management executives, and is combining it with Construct. Beginning in 2009, the TFM show will co-locate with Construct 2009, scheduled for June 17–19, 2009, at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. In this way, the facility managers who attend the TFM show will now have the opportunity to network with architects, engineers, specifiers and general contractors at the Construct show.
