Kawneer Signs on as Sponsor of Architecture Festival
In an effort to help bring the world of architecture closer together, Kawneer Co. Inc., a manufacturer of architectural aluminum building products and systems for commercial construction, recently signed on to be a partner sponsor of the inaugural World Architecture Festival (WAF), which is being held October 22-24, 2008, in Barcelona, Spain.
The WAF is designed to bring the global architectural community together to share and celebrate advancements in architecture and design. It will focus on the work, trends and issues of importance to the international architectural community, and culminates with an architectural competition.
At the center of the festival is an architectural competition for the final prize, the first architectural Prix de Barcelona. The WAF is encouraging entries in 96 building types, grouped into 16 categories, for buildings designed and completed between January 1, 2007, and June 20, 2008. Projects of all sizes are encouraged.
The entries will be narrowed to 16 finalists in each category, with short-listed architects making live presentations to judging panels consisting of some of the most influential architects in the world.
“We are excited to be a part of this groundbreaking event and encourage everyone in the architectural community to participate,” says Kimberly Ferro, director of marketing for Alcoa Building and Construction Systems. “Kawneer is committed to providing the architectural community with products and tools that will assist in the design and development process, and our sponsorship of the World Architecture Festival is another way for us to demonstrate our support for the worldwide architectural community.”
All award entries are due June 20, 2008, and will be exhibited on site at the festival. After the festival, all entries will be permanently available to view on the WAF website.
