Two Industry Companies Introduce Online Fire-rated Glazing Courses
Two fire-rated glazing product suppliers, SAFTI First and Technical Glass Products (TGP), have introduced online courses for AIA learning units.
San Francisco-based SAFTI First is offering Designing with Fire Rated Glass, which is registered for one American Institute of Architects (AIA) Learning Unit and one Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) credit.
“We often see project specifications where the type of fire-rated glazing selected was inappropriate for the application,” says William O’Keeffe, President and CEO. “Because of that, we developed this program to help architects and design professionals specify the correct type of fire-rated glazing based on current fire and safety code requirements. Having it available online makes it easy for architects to access the program anytime, anywhere, and the credits that are given at the end of the course can be counted towards fulfilling the annual AIA requirement.”

Expanding its educational outreach to design professionals, Kirkland, Wash.-based TGP now is offering its AIA-registered course Burning Issues: Understanding Today's Fire-Rated Glass and Framing online.
The course is designed to educate design professionals on the various categories of fire-rated glazing products and how to determine which materials are suitable for a given application. It also addresses design innovations in fire-rated glazing materials, recent code changes and how they impact design, and the effect of security concerns on specifying fire-rated glass.
Hosted by Grant Goodeve, the online course consists of five video modules, informational text, and a brief test-all taking approximately one hour to complete. Test scores of 80 percent or higher will earn participants 1.0 Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) learning unit hour in AIA's Continuing Education System (CES).
