Architects' Guide to Glass & MetalMoshe Safdie to Present Keynote Address During AIAS Spring Quad Conference

International architect Moshe Safdie, who has designed many projects featuring glass as a key design element, will serve as the keynote speaker for the Spring Northeast Quad Conference, which will be hosted by the University of Maryland's chapter of the American Institute of Architects Students (AIAS). Some of Safdie's recent projects include, the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands; the United States Courthouse in Mobile, Ala.; and the Parkside residential tower in Toronto.

The conference will take place Friday, April 3 through Sunday, April 5. The conference theme of the conference is Connection: Linking Urban Environments, and the weekend's events will focus on ways to promote vibrant, sustainable urbanism in the 21st century.

In addition to the presentation from Safdie, other conference highlights include architecture tours of Washington, Baltimore and Annapolis on Saturday; the Beaux Arts Ball on Saturday evening; and a tour of the University of Maryland's award-winning LeafHouse on Sunday.

Quad is a semiannual gathering for AIAS chapters in each of four regions. The Northeast Quad consists of Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, D.C., West Virginia, the Canadian province of Ontario and chapters residing in Europe and the Middle East.
