Architects' Guide to Glass & MetalNew Double-Action Hinge Offers Modern Design

Dorma Glas now offers Tensor, a double-action hinge for glass doors. The device returns the door to closed position by the action of the hinges alone, without the use of a recessed floor or overhead closer, which is sometimes not an option due to environmental restrictions. It is designed for interior applications like professional offices and art galleries where minimal, modern design is desired. Tensor hinges are available for installation directly to the masonry or frame and also for installation to a fixed glass side panel.

The hinge offers a slightly convex, radiused form with an inlay that serves as a mechanical stop for the hinge, protecting the surface of the fixed hinge section from damage when the door is opened to 90 degrees.

The product includes a zero position adjustment for alignment of a single door, or pair of doors. At 90 degrees, the system holds the door in position. Once pushed in the closing direction, the spring mechanism of the fitting takes over, operating from an angle of 80 degrees.

The product is available for single- and double-leaf doors for 3/8-inch (10 mm) or ½-inch (12 mm) glass and can accommodate a maximum weight of 143 pounds (65 kg).
