Architects' Guide to Glass & MetalNew Architectural Aluminum Finishes Available

Kawneer Company Inc., the Norcross, Ga.-based manufacturer of architectural aluminum building products and systems for commercial construction, has introduced Light Satin finish, what it says is the first in a series of new aluminum finishes. According to company officials, this aluminum finish for exterior aluminum fenestration is designed to offer architects another way to make their projects stand out.

Consistent with "truth to materials" trends in the architectural industry, the first new finish in the series highlights the natural beauty of aluminum and is designed to make a striking impression. With a chrome-like brightness and a light brushed texture, the Light Satin finish combines a look similar to stainless steel with the flatness and sharp corner aesthetics of extruded aluminum.

Featuring a consistent uni-directional, longitudinal pattern and a smudge-proof surface that resists fingerprints, Light Satin receives a Class 1 rating and a finish performance that meets or exceeds AAMA 611 for anodized architectural aluminum, according to the supplier. The finish is currently available in 350 Heavy Wall entrances, Trifab VG 451T framing and 1600 Wall System1 curtainwall pressure plate covers.
