Architects' Guide to Glass & MetalGreen Home Showcases Protected Shower Glass

The 2008 Green Home, co-sponsored by Innovative Home and Fort Worth, Texas magazines, features Guardian's ShowerGuard glass, a protected shower glass.

A showcase for the latest in sustainable home design trends and products, the house received LEED (Leader in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. It was open to the public for tours from August 27 to October 5.
The Green Home, located in Fort Worth, also features solar panels, bamboo floors, low VOC (volatile organic compound) paint, Energy Star appliances, countertops made of recycled material, kitchen cabinets made of recycled woods and other energy-efficient building materials.

ShowerGuard glass is designed to be easier to clean than regular glass and remain looking like new over time, eliminating the need for specialized cleaners or the reapplication of chemical-based coatings.

During manufacture, the glass surface of ShowerGuard is sealed through a patented ion beam process. The glass is designed to resist the corrosion and discoloration caused over time by constant exposure to heat, humidity, hard water, soaps and harsh household cleaners. These contaminants cause a chemical reaction that leaves standard glass rough and pitted so that it becomes easily clouded with residue, stain and scale buildup.

ShowerGuard glass is maintained with a soft cloth or wet sponge and most common household cleaners.
